crossing fingers...

Maren slept for over 5 hours straight again last night. Here's hoping this isn't just a fluke...

You know you're a mom when...

1. It's 10:30 in the morning, and your child is up, dressed, fed and ready to go and you are still in your pajamas. But, hey, the coffee is made.

2. You become a pro at typing with one hand. Actually you become a pro at doing everything with one hand.

3. You get really excited when your baby sleeps for 5 1/2 hours (yes, that's right people, Maren slept for 5 1/2 hours last night! Straight.)

4. Poop fascinates you.

5. None of your clothes fit. Your pregnancy clothes are too big, you can't fit into your normal clothes, and it's utterly depressing to try clothes on. I'm sure I'll get to wear my little black dress again one day...maybe in ten years..

6. You get used to doing things in short time increments. The child's gotta eat sometime...

7. Buying groceries is an accomplishment. A big one.

8. You can barely get through typing a blog post before your child calls for you. Time to eat, Mommy!

Our big little girl

Maren had her one month check up at the pediatrician today. Our little girl is getting big! She weighed in at 10 lbs 5 oz (75th %), length was 22 in (75th %) and head was 15 in (also 75th %). She has been very alert lately. For the first few weeks, she was very mellow and liked to hang out by herself. Now she likes to look around and be entertained. I'm getting used to her boredom cry of "come get me mom, I want to look at something else."
At her two week appointment the ped said at 4-6 weeks I could start to try to put her on a schedule. So...last week, I thought, ok she's four weeks I can start to try and get her on a schedule. I thought, if she's like her mother (who likes lists, plans and schedules) she will love to be on a schedule. If she's like her father (who craves spontinaity) , it will all blow up in my face. I guess it's been somewhat in between that. We've got her feedings to every three hours, pretty regularly. But getting her to sleep at night, well the schedule has been a little futile. Every other night she likes to just be awake at 2am. She's not fussy. She's actually very good. She just wants to hang out when mom and dad just want to sleep. Friday night, I hung out with her for 2 1/2 hours in the middle of the night as she looked at the animals in her crib and her mobile. Saturday night, she only woke up once and went right back to sleep. Last night, it was up again in the middle of the night. So...tonight we are due for a good night sleep. We'll see. Our big little girl surprises us every day!
Here are some recent pictures of our pretty big little girl:

Oh, and Maren wishes her Grandma Preus a very happy birthday! We love you mom!

A little hip action

Good news. Maren's hip is totally normal. The ultrasound revealed her hip is developing just fine. So no funny overall pants for her. She's now sleeping peacefully on the couch with a recovering daddy.

What a day...

Maren is one month old today. And we decided to celebrate with a bang (well, forced is more like it.). Jason got his wisdom teeth out today. And Maren had an ultrasound. It was quite a busy morning for us. We did get to sleep in a little bit, but I had to drop Jason off at the Dentist at 8am, ran back home to nurse Maren, then took her to the doctor to get an ultrasound on her hip (Pediatrician is cautious and wants to make sure it is developing correctly as she had a click in her left hip. Worst case, she will have to wear special overalls to help her hip develop). After the ultrasound it was back to the Dentist to pick up Jason. Luckily, Jason's wisdom teeth were in so he just had to get them pulled and did not have to be put under. He did take a special drug, called Halcion, which is a sleeping pill with amnesia qualities. Usually patients will come out of the drug and not remember the surgery at all. I drove Jason home, and it was quite the task to get him out of the car and into bed. I wish I had it all on video tape because it was quite amusing, though he would kill me if I shared it ;) Got Jason to bed - check. Next, get Maren. For some reason, Maren decided to be fussy this morning. After about an hour of moving her around, holding her, and not getting to eat my lunch I decided it was sleepy wrap time. So I wrapped her up and we took a nice walk while Dad slept.
Now, Maren's still in the sleepy wrap, I got to eat my lunch and get my exercise in, and Jason's watching a movie. Say a little prayer for Jason, though, as he has to go to work tomorrow. And Maren goes to the ped on Monday so will have more info then!
